Albuquerque is one of the only places that have been spared from the fluctuation in real estate. While they have seen some of the bad effects, in most cases the housing market has not seen near the fluctuation as other states. The reason for this good market is the retirees. Many times those with bad health that need to have a dry climate seek places like Arizona and New Mexico for the warmth and of course the dryness of the climate. In other words Florida is too humid for them. This means that some of the baby boomers and older generations have been moving into New Mexico looking for real estate.

Most of the New Mexico real estate currently available is retirement communities with homes or condominiums. You will also find some of the older homes are for sale or rent. Let us take a look at the vacation or retirement properties. For some condominiums you can purchase time shares for certain dates of the year to have a second home to visit. The condominiums are usually more appealing in the area due to the ease of care. The outside is entirely up to the condominium association and the owners just have to worry about the inside. Most of the condominiums are being built so that they are floor level. In other words the retirees do not want to have homes where they need to climb stairs. There are retirement communities with homes rather than condominiums that are usually on man made golf courses. You will also find that these communities offer help for the retirees in landscaping and other outside care making it a prime location to settle. They can also find homes large enough for when their families come to visit, but not over whelming in the cleaning process.

New Mexico is a dry state with little water. For water there is Blue Hole New Mexico and a few other national parks you can visit. For the most part however the land you can purchase in real estate deals will be dessert. Carls Bad Caverns is also located in the state offering a prettier side to the actual dessert community. For those who still work you may find the housing prices a little high. This means the rental homes and apartments are extremely important to the New Mexico real estate community. Most of the workers in the state will need to have large homes, say three or four bedrooms to encompass their entire family to make the housing affordable as rentals or even as a purchase. The housing market has not seen a significant decrease in the value of homes, due to the increase of the retirement community. This can make it difficult in the New Mexico real estate avenue for homes in the $300's range. Most are hoping for homes below $200,000.

You will find the actual homes are usually adobe rather than wood to make the homes cooler during the summer months when air conditioning is needed. In most of the older homes window units need to be installed to make them more comfortable.
